St. Mary’s Community Hospital first opened its doors on February 13, 1927. Since that time, generations of families have received treatment at the hospital.

PRESENT

St. Mary’s Community Hospital is an 18-bed Critical Access hospital. This comprehensive health care facility offers acute inpatient services, medical/surgical services, 24-hour emergency care, obstetrics, complete radiology services, cardiac testing, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary services, more than 17 medical specialty clinics, Lifeline, cafeteria, laboratory, plus many other services.

FUTURE

The organization’s 75th year proved to be its very best as measured by excellent patient satisfaction scores, solid operational performance, and successful retention and recruitment efforts. Mr. Daniel Kelly, President and CEO, attributes this to several factors, “We have really assembled as fine a health care team as you’ll find anywhere. This includes an outstanding local medical staff, great consulting specialists, an excellent hospital staff, and a dedicated and talented board of directors.” Being part of a larger system also helps set St. Mary’s apart from other providers in a positive way.

The organizations mantra is that you simply can’t rest on your laurels and meet the needs of those you serve. With that in mind, a comprehensive remodeling of the emergency area was recently completed. Further enhancements in the surgical area will take place in 2004, and additional property adjacent to the hospital campus has been acquired in anticipation of future expansion needs. Technological upgrades have been completed in nuclear medicine and information systems. Strategic planning efforts will help determine what steps St. Mary’s needs to take in anticipation of the future. Getting ready for the next 75 years is an awesome responsibility, but one that the leadership of St. Mary’s Community Hospital is excited about and ready to accept.

St. Mary's Community Hospital has invested in the health of the Nebraska City region by constantly upgrading its facilities and technology to the finest available. Examples of this commitment to diagnostic and therapeutic excellence include the addition of an in-house spiral dual-head CT scanner, a cardiac and general Doppler ultrasound, a chemistry analyzer, and integrated telemetry system, fetal monitor, IV pumps and comprehensive video-based endoscopy systems. Additional services that include sleep studies and PET scanning have been added to our service line.

A comprehensive remodel of the emergency department has just been completed, allowing for more space and privacy for those in need of our care. Additional enhancements scheduled to take place in 2004 include surgical suite renovations. We look forward to the future and being able to serve and provide you with quality care.
